Dr. Jason Mitchell is currently the Director of SCaN's Advanced Communication and Navigation Technology (ACNT) Division and the Agency Systems Capability Leader for Communications and Navigation in May 2020. Since joining NASA, he has supported the identification, maturation, and infusion of communications, navigation, and timing technologies that enabled unique agency missions, e.g., high-altitude GPS for the Magnetospheric Multi-Scale (MMS) mission and the first real-time, on-orbit demonstration of X-ray Pulsar Navigation (XNAV) with the Station Explorer for X-ray Timing and Navigation Technology (SEXTANT) demonstration as part of the Neutron Star Interior Composition Explorer (NICER) mission.

Dr. Mitchell received his PhD in 2000 from the University of Cincinnati in Aerospace Engineering and then joined the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) Air Vehicles Directorate at Wright-Patterson AFB as a National Research Council sponsored post-doctoral Visiting Scientist.
