Move forward from Japan to the Moon and Mars through Life Science experiments, through Mouse Habitat Unit (MHU).

MHU is a system that makes space mice experiments possible, supporting launch, rearing on orbit and return alive for mice research.
It consists of Transportation Cage Unit (TCU), Glove Box, Habitat Cage Unit (HCU), and control unit. HCU, indivisual cage for each mouse, can be installed in CBEF, Cell Biology Experimental Facility, and rearing mice in microgravity and artificial gravity environments at the same time for comparison.

HCU is equipped with the following for mouse rearing:
✓ Feeder
✓ Water supply apparatus
✓ Excrement collection equipment (excrement is collected by air flow in the cage)
✓ Deodorant filter
✓ Ventilation fans
✓ LED illumination (Visible and infrared )
✓ Video camera with night vision technology and window wiper
✓ Temperature sensor
✓ Gas monitoring sensors (CO2 and NH3) in controller unit



Cell Biology Experiment Facility (CBEF and CBEF-L)

CBEF is designed for various life science experiments in the Pressurized Module, such as cultivating cells, plants and so on.
CBEF consists of an incubator and control equipment for control and communication.
The incubator unit consists of a microgravity compartment and an artificial gravity compartment in which a centrifuge can create and control artificial gravity from 0.1 to 2.0G, as appropriate.


Our iIncubator can provide the following environments:
✓ Temperature control : 15 deg. C to 40 deg. C
✓ Humidity control : 20 % RH to 80 % RH
✓ CO2 concentration : 0 vol % to 10 vol
✓ Centrifugal acceleration: 0.2 to 2G Control Equipment can provide the following utilities for users.
✓ Power: 5 V,12 V +/-15 V (DC)
✓ Sensor output :0 to 5 V
✓ NTSC video interface
✓ RS-485 interface. In addition to above, CBEF-L has advanced features shown below.
✓ Power: 24V
✓ HD (High Definition) video interface
✓ Ethernet
✓ Various Centrifuge experiment (larger diameter than CBEF and tandem operation)



Aquatic Habitat (AQH)

Closed water loop with two (2) aquariums (total water volume 3.2 liter) for long-term (90 days) experiment duration.... More Info Less Info







AQH is composed of one closed water circulation system with two aquariums. The aquarium has automatic feeding system, LED light for day/night cycle and CCD camera for observation.


The aquarium environment will be maintained by water flow rate control, water temperature control, dissolved gas exchange with air, and biological/physical filtrations. Also, the AQH will have onorbit maintenance capabilities, such as water quality check, water exchange, waste filter replacement and so on, to achieve long-term experiments up to 90days.
