Profile
Scott McLaughlin is the Executive Director of Spaceport America, the first purpose-built commercial spaceport. Scott graduated from New Mexico State University with a degree in electrical engineering and spent several years at White Sands Missile Range working at a large meteorological test site. After moving to Austin, then Houston to work for NASA, Scott moved to Boulder, CO to work for NOAA, and to continue working on innovative wind profiling radar designs. He eventually went the entrepreneurial route, successfully starting, running, and selling a new division of a small radar company. Working mostly in the meteorology realm, Scott has designed several different models of radar (including a very large system operating at Kennedy Space Center), and has traveled around the world installing, maintaining, and marketing these systems. Scott has been involved in STEM through activities like FIRST Robotics, is a long-standing member of Optimist International, loves being in the outdoors, and plays trombone in various local groups. Scott moved back to Las Cruces, NM, eventually landing a dream job, and is now proudly supporting Virgin Galactic, SpinLaunch and other space pioneers operating out of Spaceport America.
