Gary Henry joined SpaceX in February 2019 and currently serves as Senior Advisor of National Security Space Solutions. Focused on supporting the unique requirements of the Department of Defense and National Intelligence Community launch and space transportation mission requirements. Gary’s previous industry experience included Senior Director at Phantom Works Space Systems, a unit of Boeing Space Defense & Security.
Prior to his industry transition, Gary’s final Air Force assignment was commander, Launch and Range Systems Wing, responsible for the execution and operation of the Evolved Expendable Launch Vehicle and Launch & Test Range programs for the USAF Space and Missile Systems Center.
Gary entered the Air Force as a graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy. He served as an Air Force science and technology officer, assistant professor of astronautics at the U.S. Air Force Academy, flight test engineer and flight dynamics branch chief within the 418th Flight Test Squadron, and executive officer to the commander, Air Force Flight Test Center. His acquisition career began as chief of the air vehicle and test IPT, Airborne Laser (ABL) System Program Office, and subsequently as the ABL program element monitor at Headquarters Air Force. Prior to his retirement from active duty, he has commanded at the squadron (1st Air and Space Test Squadron, Vandenberg AFB), group (Space Situation Awareness Group, Los Angeles AFB), and wing level.
Gary earned a Master of Science degree in aeronautical & astronautical engineering from Stanford University, a Master of Arts degree in strategic studies from Air War College, and a Bachelor of Science in astronautical engineering from the US Air Force Academy. He is also a graduate of the USAF Test Pilot School. He has authored numerous technical papers as well as a space propulsion textbook.
